El origen de Splinter
El origen de Splinter

Have you ever wondered how a rat became the wise master of the Ninja Turtles? Splinter’s origin story is as fascinating as the adventures of his disciples, the famous Ninja Turtles. Join me on this journey to discover Splinter’s origin and how this key character intertwines with the story of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo.

Splinter’s Origin

Our story begins with Hamato Yoshi, a master of martial arts in Japan. He was not only the leader of his clan, known as “The Foot Clan“, but also a prodigy of ninjutsu throughout the country. But, as in every good plot, fate had other plans for him.

Next to Yoshi lived a little rat named Splinter. From his cage, this cunning creature watched his “master’s” every move and imitated him precisely. Who would have thought that a rat could learn martial arts? But here was Splinter, following in his human’s footsteps with amazing dexterity.

The rivalry between Yoshi and Oroku Saki, leader of the clan, reached its breaking point. Yoshi fled to the United States with his wife Tang Shen, escaping Saki’s wrath. However, tragedy struck when Yoshi returned home to find his beloved dead at the hands of Oroku Saki. This one, now known as Shredder (Krang’s future ally), had become the new leader of the clan, leading this group to the “dark side of the force“.

And so, Splinter was left alone in the gloomy sewers of New York, surviving as best he could. But fate had more surprises in store for him.

An Unexpected Twist: Radiation and the Mutant Turtles

One day, a blind man and a boy crossed paths on the streets of New York. A truck carrying radioactive material almost ran over the blind man, while the boy lost a fish tank containing four turtles. These turtles, bathed in the radioactive liquid, fell into the sewer. And, by chance or fate, Splinter was also hit by the same substance.

The radiation transformed the turtles into mutant beings, and Splinter was no exception. From common rat to anthropomorphic rat, his intelligence and abilities grew exponentially. Splinter became the wise master of the Ninja Turtles: Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo.

Splinter’s non-canon origin

Splinter wasn’t always a rat. Originally, he was a human named Hamato Yoshi, a respected ninjutsu master in Japan. His life changed forever due to a series of unfortunate events that led him to become the rat we know today. But how did this transformation come about?

Splinter’s history is marked by an intense rivalry with Oroku Saki, who would later become the fearsome Shredder. This feud had deadly consequences, leading Yoshi to flee to the United States. But tragedy followed, and after the death of his beloved wife at Saki’s hands, Yoshi found himself living in the sewers of New York.

In the gloomy sewers, Yoshi, now Splinter, encountered four little turtles. An unexpected accident with a radioactive material known as “ooze” transformed Splinter and the turtles into the anthropomorphic creatures that fans love. Splinter adopted the turtles as his children and taught them the art of ninjutsu.
